Social Studies

From Houston...to Texas...to the World...

Social studies at Harvard takes on a special significance because many of the IB Planners at each grade level are based on civic issues. Social studies promotes knowledge of and involvement in civic affairs.  Because civic issues are multidisciplinary in nature, understanding these issues and developing resolutions to them require a transdisciplinary approach. These characteristics are the key defining aspects of social studies. It is the integrated study of social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence. This includes the study of sociology, political science, history, economics, geography, and civics.
