Harvard Elementary School Houston Texas in the Heart of the Houston Heights

Harvard PTA   - Who are we, What do we do?
The Harvard Elementary PTA is a group of dedicated parents who seek to support our children, teachers, and staff as we work together to build on a long and rich history of educational excellence in the historic Houston Heights.

Our primary focus is always the children and families of Harvard Elementary.

We provide many opportunities for enrichment and enlightenment.

  • Healthy Harvard Happening (annual festival focused on Exercise and Nutrition)
  • Student Assemblies (two per year)
  • Parent Education (Homework Help, Parenting 101, Car Seat Safety, Abduction Prevention, informative sessions at PTA Meetings
    on or off-campus)
  • Marathon Kids/Wellness Kick-Off
  • Nature Teachers/Environmental Awareness

..We also just like to have fun together:

  • Family Holiday Craft Night
  • Magnet Night
  • Family Bingo Night
  • Pinata Dinner and Auction
  • Auction Night (dinner, shopping, and live music)

..And, we support our teachers and staff in many ways:

  • Teacher Appreciation Committee (two special lunches each year, plus special breakfasts and other recognition throughout the school year)
  • Room Parent Program (supports the classroom teacher with special projects/classroom activities and party planning)
  • Teacher Grant Assistance (assists teachers in grant proposal activities)
  • Book Fair Assistance (assist Librarian)
  • VIPS office assistance (provide copying, collating, and clerical assistance)

..We also work to improve our campus through various special projects:

..Our Rich Heritage

Over the years, we’ve provided the outdoor classroom, built the garden center with waterfalls and ponds, provided numerous stepping stones, benches, and playground equipment.  Just last Spring we commissioned the new Frog sculpture in front of the school.  This Spring we will build a soft-surface playscape and butterfly garden outside the Kindergarten classrooms from an HPD grant.

..We care....  We provide Thanksgiving baskets for qualifying families each year.  We’ve raised money and school supplies for disaster victims, provided Scholarships for Harvard alumnus, and supported our community in many meaningful ways.

..Who we are.  ..We are a diverse group of parents.  Some with older children, some with younger, some who work full-time, some who stay-at-home, many backgrounds, but one goal:   to make this great school the best environment for our children.

..Join Us!

Will you consider donating some of your valuable time to help?  We have positions for you regardless of the level of commitment you wish to make.  We have openings on our Executive Board, for Committee Chairs, Committee Members, or just that person to call on when we need a few dozen cookies baked.  Let us know if you have a special talent or area that you would like to serve.  We look forward to working with you!

This is NOT your
Mother ’s PTA !
Parent-Teacher Associations have been
around a long time, I know. But this one
is different. It’s filled with women—and
men—who not only want to improve
their children’s school, but who bring
tremendous experience from their careers
and backgrounds.

Our PTA includes fundraisers,
writers, designers, event-planners,
and a principal very willing to give of his
time. When all these talented brains and
ideas come together to make change,
great things happen!

We’re funding the
renovations, sending countless children
on terrific field trips, and even brought a
magician to this year’s first General PTA
Meeting.

Join our PTA.
Everyone’s got
something to offer.

Let’s get to work for
Harvard!

Thank You,
Cynthia Mullins

“What I love
about Harvard...

...the principal
has such
energy and
enthusiasm.”
...it’s a safe
place where
learning is
both fun and
challenging.”
...Harvard
cares for
every single
one of its
students.”
...it’s got
‘small town’
atmosphere
with ‘big city’
ideas.”
